KIIP Mid-Term and Comprehensive Tests (중간평가·종합평가): What to Expect

8 min read · Updated 2026 · Unofficial guide

Beyond the placement pre-test, KIIP has assessments that mark your progress through the program — commonly a mid-term (중간평가) and a comprehensive (종합평가) evaluation. Understanding what they are for takes the anxiety out of them.

The exact format, timing, and passing criteria of these assessments can be updated by the program. Use this as a general orientation and confirm current details on socinet.go.kr.

Where these tests sit in the program

As you complete levels, KIIP checks that you have absorbed the material before you advance. The mid-term type of assessment evaluates your progress through the language levels, and the comprehensive assessment is the more significant evaluation tied to completing the program’s stages, including the understanding-of-Korean-society content. In short: these are the checkpoints that let you move up and, ultimately, complete the program.

What the language assessments cover

Because they measure the same skills the course teaches, you can prepare with confidence. Expect a mix of:

The single best preparation habit

Cumulative tests reward cumulative study. The students who struggle are usually the ones who learned each lesson, passed, and then forgot it. The ones who breeze through kept reviewing earlier material while learning new material. That is exactly what spaced-repetition flashcards are built for.

A preparation routine that works

Managing test nerves

These assessments are checkpoints, not traps. They test what you have been taught, in the formats you have been practicing. Sleep well beforehand, arrive early, read each question fully, and pace yourself. If a question stumps you, move on and come back — momentum matters more than any single item.

Keep the ladder moving

Passing an assessment means you are ready for the next level — and the next set of grammar and vocabulary. See what is ahead in the KIIP Levels guide, and keep your foundation sharp with regular flashcards and quizzes. Steady review is the whole secret.
